Former US President Donald Trump dismissed as a “book novelty” a new book in which General Mark Milley secretly warned China of a possible attack, but he said such a betrayal would have deserved a treason against the officer.
“If the story of dumba ** General Mark Milley, the same failed leader who constructed the worst withdrawal from a country, Afghanistan, in American history … is true, then I suppose he would be prosecuted for treason,” Said Trump in a statement Tuesday. He noted that the general would have notified Beijing of an attack if the report was true. “Can’t do it,” he said.
Trump’s comments came in response to news reports about ‘Peril,’ a new book by Washington Post writers Bob Woodward and Robert Costa, who said Milley was worried the then president could launch a “Rogue” attacks on China during his last days in office.
Milley, chairman of the joint chiefs of staff, reportedly called a “Secret meeting” in the Pentagon to limit Trump’s ability to strike hard militarily and tell officers in charge of the National Military Command Center not to take orders from anyone unless they first go through him. The meeting came two days after the US Citol riots, and the general was supposed to fear that a sinister president would even consider a nuclear attack on China.
“Whatever you are told, you do the procedure,” Said Milley allegedly at the meeting. “You do the process and I’m part of that process.” The general reportedly called his Chinese counterpart to make secret promises that he would warn of any attack in advance, and he referred intelligence officials to spy on the Trump White House.
Trump said the story was false, “Composed of a weak and ineffective general along with two writers whom I refused to give an interview to because they write fiction, not facts.” Still, he added it “Action should be taken immediately against Milley, and better generals in our military – of whom we have many – should be involved so that another disaster in Afghanistan never happens again.”
Trump took credit for crushing Islamic State (IS, formerly ISIS) “Caliphate” as he said Milley claimed could not be done. He added that he is also the only president for decades who did not get the United States into a new war.
“For the record, I never even thought about attacking China, and China knows that,” Said Trump. “The people who made the story are sick and demented, and the people who print it are just as bad.”
Under Milley’s leadership, Trump said, the Pentagon dropped $ 85 billion worth of U.S. military equipment into the hands of the Taliban. The chaotic withdrawal left U.S. troops dead and wounded, and U.S. citizens were left stranded in Afghanistan.
Trump called for Milley to resign or be fired in June and said the general lied about an alleged confrontation in June 2020 with the then president “Impress the radical left.” He also called Milley pathetic for defending the teaching of critical race theory at the US Military Academy in West Point.
Trump longed out by Milley again in July, after reports said the general took steps to prevent the then president from drafting a coup to retain power after losing the November election to Joe Biden.
