It’s always an impressive moment when a fan does something athletic from the stands, but it’s even more impressive when they do the athletic move while at the same time having to have some focus on something else, such as a baby. The strangely specific example was given due to a particular Padres fan during the ball club’s match on Wednesday.
A woman holding a child with her left arm went after a bouncing baseball that came into the stands and was able to catch the ball with her right hand. The move received cheers from the surrounding crowd, not only because of the catch, but also because the baby was unharmed when she moved.
What is particularly impressive is that the baby remained attached to the arm at their torso, so it is not as if the toddler ended up being injured as a result of her decision to grab a souvenir.
This provides a good time to note that there should be some sort of post-catch movement when a fan grabs a ball while holding a child, similarly there is a traditional move when someone catches a ball with their beer . With the drink they chew it; with the baby, the person holding the baby should at least kiss them in the forehead, or, better yet, the lion king be lifted up into the air as a sign of achievement. Because there is no tradition, we do not dock points for something that remains very impressive, but someone should change it soon.
