BEAUFORT, SC () – According to school officials, two of the three people killed in the pickup and sedan crash on a bridge over a body of water were college students in South Carolina.
Beaufort County Coroner’s Office identified the victims on Saturday as Tyler Cameron Carroll, 23, of Ridgeland; Jonathan Green, 27, Hardeeville and Jordan Amari Johnson, 21, Ridgeland.
Green, who drove the sedan, studied information science at the University of South Carolina Beaufort, University spokeswoman Carol Weir told The Island Packet. Johnson sat in the back seat of the sedan. According to Converse spokeswoman Holly Duncan, she was a student at Converse College in Spartanburg.
Authorities said the crash occurred on Saturday around 2:15 a.m. when a pickup and sedan crashed on the western bridges of Hilton Head. The crash sent the truck into the water, authorities said.
Green worked on the USCB campus, Weir said, adding that his sister, also a university employee, was also in the sedan and suffered serious injuries.
“We are heartbreaking,” USCB Chancellor Al M. Panu said in an email to The Island Packet.
Converse College President Krista Newkirk called Johnson’s death a “devastating news” in a Facebook post.
The cause of the accident was not disclosed. A highway patrol in South Carolina is investigating.
