There is no time for a golf stop after the Masters, as a really strong RBC Heritage is being swung at Harbor Town Golf Links this week. Dustin Johnson, Collin Morikawa, Tyrrell Hatton, Webb Simpson and Patrick Cantlay make up half of the top 10 players in the world, and all five are in the field this week at RBC Heritage.
The scenes in Hilton Head are always amazing, but this is also an interesting course that is not biased against hitting the ball 9 million yards. That’s why we’ve seen players like CT Pan, Webb Simpson, Matt Kuchar and Brian Gay win here, but also golfers like Dustin Johnson, Patrick Cantlay and Bryson DeChambeau (who were late at the bottom) also find some success.
I went deep into the course setup here after Simpson won this tournament last June and I look forward to seeing it again with a really strong field (half of the top 30 in the world will be there too) trying to solve it.
After one round, Cameron Smith is out ahead 9 under. The Aussie looked solid with his bogey-free round on Thursday to lead a shot leading over veteran Stewart Cink. There will be plenty of competition – and birdies – over the next three days, so Smith should not be too comfortable. Guys like Matt Wallace and Collin Morikawa nip only three shots left.
Here’s how you can follow during the week.
