Among the critics of Draymond Green’s comments on how female athletes should go about asking for fair treatment was America’s female national team star Megan Rinoe. During Team USA’s media conference on Wednesday, she continued this criticism as she spoke to journalists.
The big point Rinoe re-washed was the original question she took with Green’s introductory tweet on the subject, which essentially boiled down to claiming that female athletes focused too much on the pay gap between men and women and not enough to cultivate their respective sports. This answer is also with the additional context in which Warriors forward is doubled when talking to journalists.
Rinoe had this to say when asked about Green’s comments:
“Of course you’ve shown your whole ass by not even understanding what we’re all talking about all the time … You don ‘t think we’d asked for more funding?
Rinoe has long used his platform to do exactly what Green has argued that female athletes do not do enough of: talking women’s sports to expand the games and make them known. In addition to responding to the Warriors forward’s misguided criticism on Twitter, she has been live tweeting about the NCAA Women’s Basketball Tournament.
Outside of social media, Rinoe has been one of the faces to push for an equal pay for himself and his colleagues on the U.S. national team. She was invited to the White House to talk about the pay gap between men and women in American football.
