PROVIDENCE RI () – A man from Rhode Island who traveled to Canada for sex with a 13-year-old girl he met online was sentenced to six years in prison, federal prosecutors said.
Herbert Rodas, 24, from Pawtucket, communicated with the girl on social media for several months and exchanged explicit photographs with her before she traveled to Winnipeg in June 2019, according to a statement from a U.S. law firm in Providence.
He flew to Canada, paid cash for a hotel room, and met a girl in the room several times in three days to engage in sexual activity, proscutors said.
Federal authorities were warned by Winnipeg police.
He found him guilty of illegal sexual behavior with a minor in foreign places, passing obscene material to a minor, and receiving child pornography.
In addition to his imprisonment, he was sentenced to 10 years in prison on Wednesday.
