The elimination chamber ended on a shocking note last Sunday, with The Miz redeeming its money in the bank deal to win the championship from Drew McIntyre. It was an unexpected detour on the way to and aroused as much controversy as the first time Miz won a world championship more than a decade ago.
Miz, real name Michael Mizanin, first became famous as a cast member in MTV’s “The Real World” in 2001. In the reality show, Mizanin introduced the character of The Miz, an over-the-top, flat-cliché professional wrestler alter-ego. During the gimmick made for television, an actual love of pro-wrestling that led to his entry into the world was first with a sharpness as a participant in the 2004 season of “Tough Enough” and then worked his way through the development system finally debuted on television in 2006. In 2010, Mizanin won his first world championship, a race largely rejected by fans who had not bought into him as a “real wrestler.”
That, among other failures – and successes – in the industry, has prepared him for this race with the company’s top championship, Mizanain told CBS Sports.
“It feels like a perfect storm that ended with me with the championship,” Mizanin said. “Every time you can be the guy who is trusted to have the most coveted title in and be the face of the company, it just means the world to us. That’s what we fight for. That’s why we’re here every week. Admittedly, we I’m here to entertain our audience, but we have goals. My goal was always to get the championship back. I did not want to be a one-hit marvel. I wanted the title again and I wanted to showcase what I can do as a champion. Now I’m sitting here in front of you as that person.
“Now I have confidence. I had confidence 10 years ago, but the knowledge I have learned through my failures – I always say that my failures taught me more than all my successes. Through all my failures and successes, I ‘have been able to learn and absorb what I needed to get back to where I am today. Now I am hpy, confident, clear and well prepared.I just want to make sure everyone knows that each Once Raw comes on the air, it’s the most must-see show, and that things open up, and there are times when you do not know what’s open, but you want to see what’s next. a fantastic show fantastic. “
There has been an interesting kind of echo to Mizanin’s first race as champion last year. In both championship victories, Mizanin successfully earned the Money in the Bank contract on an injured champion after a strenuous match. In 2020, former partner and real friend John Morrison also looked back on a revival of their successful team from the late 2000s.
Morrison has been by Mizanin’s side through his time with the Money in the Bank briefcase and now as champion, with the pair celebrating their championship to kick off the release of Raw following the abolition of Raw on Monday night.
“John produces the best in me,” Mizanin said. “He motivates me and makes me think outside the box. His brain works differently than anyone I’ve ever met. He’s just an incredible friend. He’s the brother I’ve never had. I love being next to Him in the ring and be able to share this with him. “
Mizanin’s first race as champion was not received critically or by the fans. But he has managed to maintain a position of relevance through a series of tweaks to his character and has found himself as a performer both inside the ring and on the microphone.
This has led to a kind of revaluation of Mizanin’s place in and an acceptance of him as a high level performer. Of course, critics are constant in any high-profile form of entertainment. Mizanin is happy with the critics, he said, because it’s part of what drives his love of the job.
“You obviously did not look at my Twitter feed,” Mizanin said. “When I won, it was not all positive, I tell you. It felt like 10 years ago when I first won it. I do not deserve it. I suck. I am the worst person ever. How can they do this? They’re ruining Monday Night Raw. I’m taking it, and I’m listening to it, because if people talk … like they were, and it blew the Internet out of the elimination chamber as the most talked about thing. It’s the greatness of it. You never know what’s going to get bigger. People can now assume and think about it, but that’s what I love about this company, and that’s why I’ve been in able to do what I’ve been able to do for so long. It’s because I love my job.
“I love being a superstar. I love the fan interaction we have and the connection. Whether it’s positive or negative, it’s their power to do what they want to do. I love it, and I love everything about it. It is what I get I go and wake up in the morning.I love the business of and being a sports entertainer.I love to prove that we are not just ‘rattlers anymore – we are the greatest entertainers out there.I’m out there to prove it with every show I do, whether it’s Raw or it’s Miz & Mrs. who’s coming back with new episodes the day after (12, USA Network) It’s always incredible to see the reaction to it, too, because I’m supposed to be a bad guy on Raw, but then you see Miz & Mrs. and can not help but like me. “
