The work day can be full of stress and what helps stress? Food. When you’re at work, it can be extremely difficult to get out of the routine of instant shoulders, fast food and snacks from vending machines. Here are some small changes you can make to start making healthier choices at work.
Eat a full breakfast
You know what they say, breakfast is the most important meal of the day, so why do so many of us miss it? We are all guilty of running away from home with only coffee in hand, driving to work without anything in our stomachs. A full breakfast can increase productivity and can be as simple as adding a smoothie with beans and pellets to your morning routine.
Get a simple, healthy lunch from home
This may seem like a lot of effort, but you can very easily pre-prepare your lunch for the whole week. You can prepare a batch full of vegetable soup or make several different salads. You can even make a wrap with leftovers from dinner. Keep it simple and keep it healthy.
Make the most of your vacation
Up to 82% of us admit that we do not always take breaks at work, instead we choose to eat comfortable food at our desks while catching up with work. However, not only the food you eat is important, but also the way you eat it!
Taking a moment to evaluate our food and take a breath of fresh air can actually make amazing changes in our mental attitude. It is just as important to be healthy and happy. A a wellness program can help you create positive changes in eating behavior, healthy habits, fitness, weight management and overall well-being.
Pack your own snacks
Workplace vending machines are the fall of diets since the dawn of time. No matter what your healthy eating habits, be sure to pack some healthy snacks if you are “excited” and tempted with your glass in the middle of the afternoon.
Drink plenty of water
Getting enough water a day is a lot important for health of your body. Water helps your body regulate temperature, lubricates and softens your joints, protects your spinal cord and gets rid of nasty things like toxins. It is recommended to drink about 2 liters or about 8 glasses of water a day.
This may seem like a lot until you think about how many bottles of fizzy drinks you get from the vending machine! Try to choose water over sweet drinks and fizzy drinks. You can also try drinking black coffee or tea, flavored water or soda as an alternative to daily water intake. These are relatively low or no calories, but should be used as part of a balanced diet.
Just try your best
All you can do is try your best. One day you may want potatoes – and that’s good from time to time! Eating a balanced diet does not mean that nothing is forbidden: everything is fine, as long as it is moderate.
