Italian football star and Fiorentina captain Davide Astori has died at the age of 31.
Davide Astori has died after a “sudden illness”, Fiorentina confirmed on his official Twitter channel.
In a statement, the club said: “Fiorentina is deeply shocked to announce the death of Captain Davide Astori after a sudden illness.
“Given this terrible and delicate situation, we appeal to everyone’s sensitivity at the moment, above all out of respect for their family.”
The football team was scheduled to play against Udinese in Serie A on March 4, but the match and all other Serie A competitions were suspended.

Davide Astori, restricted 14 times by Italy, joined the club in 2016 from Cagliari and had 58 appearances for them.
Cagliari postponed his match against Genoa on March 4.
Davide Astori, who is leaving a wife and two-year-old daughter, went through the youth system in Milan before joining Cagliari in 2008.
The defender spent eight years at the club and had spells in Roma and Fiorentina before moving permanently to the latter two years ago.
